If you haven’t heard Engineers yet..
They’re a UK band that released their first effort (a mini-album) Folly in 2004, their first full-length (self-titled) in 2005 and their latest album, Three Fact Fader, this year.
I recently become obsessed with their wall-of-sound single, Clean Coloured Wire [listen to the serious music-lover's extended version here] and then got the new album – highly recommend it :)
FINALLY! The collaboration between Josh Homme (QOTSA/EODM/Kyuss/Etc), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) has been named, recorded and booked.
UPDATE from ANTIQUIET: “The promo poster and YouTube clip we presented yesterday are fake; both seem to be part of an elaborate hoax.. So the release date is not necessarily October 23rd. The album title is not Never Deserved The Future.”
i know i’m late to the game but i just fell in love with arctic monkey..
catch them performing tracks from their forthcoming 3rd album, ‘Humbug’ in a Web Transmission on Thursday 30th July 2009 at 4pm ET (3pm local) or catch them live at First Avenue on Friday, September 25th (18+) – tickets ($25) here
You know that band with the SUPER ANNOYING pop-up ads that block content on all your favorite sites.. Dead Weather? Yeah well, despite that, they kinda rock – and they’re coming to First Avenue next week: Mon, Jul 27 / Doors @ 7:00 PM / get tickets here ($29)
Thanks @TENEBRINI for the heads-up :)
get ready for some psychedelic analogue electronica (canada-style).. holy fuck is coming to minneapolis :)
if you haven’t heard them, check out their music on their myspace page or just take my word for it – they’re well worth heading out on a sunday night..

i hate to send anyone to a myspace page but it’s all they have – so – listen to solid gold here
if you can’t make that show (or if, like me, you really dig their dj sets) catch them at the uptown bar “west rocks” party on the 23rd (10pm – prob $5)
definitely near the top of my list of shows to see this summer.. grizzly bear is coming to minneapolis
making lists.. crossing things off lists.. this is a huge part of my life.
for those who don’t know, i recently joined the millions of unemployed folks in this country. i’m trying not to take it too personally. i know i did a great job and that i was appreciated there – the economics simply dictated massive layoffs at tc. honestly, i feel good that i survived the 2008 cuts and made it to the finals. damn. i knew i should have asked for less money when they offered me the position ;)
but what’s past is past and i’ll land on my feet as always. it only means that my lists of things to-do are growing even longer than normal.. that said, here are some things that you should be aware of this week:
solid gold is playing @ the uptown bar this wednesday (jan 28th) – prob $5-8 dollars @ the door and well worth it..
Cliche is having a fashion show @ old arizona this thursday (jan 29) from 8pm – 10pm, featuring local designers: Amanda Christine Designs, kjurek couture, Ivan Idland, Martiza Ramirez/Anthem Heart, Karmadandi, Niki English, Jenny Carle, Arwyn Birch, Peloria, Renate Adjei, Red Shoe Clothing Co., Emily Weich, Carmichael Claith.. Tickets are $8.00 (very limited space so tickets needs to be purchased in advance!) and you can get them at the store (2403 Lyndale Avenue s).
steve tenebrini of squad19 has some super cool screen prints available that feature artwork from his daughter & glow-in-the-dark eyes! only $50 bucks (if i were still employed I would snatch the one with gene simmons up immediately)..
rift magazine needs your attention for a minute… this is my favorite local mag and i hope that everyone will cough up a few bucks so we can see another issue in print. sure, the online version is great, but it’s nice to have something you can actually touch. i feel so “oldschool” when i actually hold a paper anymore.. go there and make a donation to the worthy cause – it’ll make you feel good. really.
more coming soon.. no really – i’m back.
i accidentally caught the last half of “story of the sea” @ the triple rock (social club) last night.. had I known they were opening, i would have come earlier and caught the whole show – luckily for me (and you) they are playing again next month with another old favorite, the life and times.. this will be a great show, worthy of heading downtown on a monday nite
