rip music from your ipod

the ability to easily rip your ipod to a computer is the number one feature request by ipod users – but – it’s not going to happen, since apple has to play nice with the content providers. okay, piracy is very real concern but there are other, perfectly legit reasons you may need to do this…

if you’re on a mac, simply download senuti and follow the instructions (free 30 trial). all of the songs on the ipod will be auto added to your itunes music folder and your itunes playlist (so they’ll be loaded on the next ipod you sync)

if you’re on a pc it’s not quite so simple but still possible – you can use winamp along with it’s ipod plugins or just do this:
-Connect your iPod to your computer
-Run iTunes if it doesn’t automatically
-Go to Edit – Preferences
-Select “Manually manage songs and playlists”. This also opens up “disk use”
-Open My Computer from your desktop
-Go to the Tools menu, now select “Folder Options”
-Go to the View tab
-Click the radial button that says: “Show hidden files and folders”
- Now click OK on the Folder Options window
- In My Computer locate the iPod storage device (opened via disk use)
-Open the iPod_Control folder
-Inside you’ll find the Music folder..

there you go :)

i ♥ to find new music

finally, the internet has caught up with my need to find new music.. easily. here are my personal top three for it:

blip.fm [website]
blip is freakin awesome and is my new #1 source for new music. simply create an account and click “play” to start listening to songs as they show up (every 5 seconds) in your browser.. to customize it (and get music you’re most likely to like) start searching for songs and play/favorite them and/or start following (i.e. “favorite” on blip) djs that play music you like.. best bet is to do this and then allow their app that suggests djs you’ll like.. amazingly effective way to find new music you love
you can also give/recieve props.. and (if you keep playing music) will start to get a bunch of “listeners” – which..well who cares – the primary use is to find new music

we are hunted [website]
We Are Hunted is an Online Music Chart – they “.. aggregate social networks, forums, music blogs, Torrents, P2P Networks and Twitter to develop a daily chart of the 99 most popular songs online.”… brilliant! why no one thought of this earlier is a mystery.. but thank god someone finally did. just click on the song to play.. like it? click to buy it n itunes or whatever.. or dig it on blip to save for later

shazam [iphone/blackberry app]
oh this is my number one most favorite app that was ever created on earth.. simply click the app & point in the general direction of any music source in the vicinity and it will tell you 1) artists/song title and 2) a link to buy it.. i can’t even begin to tell you how strongly i feel about this app..
now it occasionally cannot find the music you’re hearing – usually this is because 1) the song isn’t on the internet (ie it’s something your friend created with garageband), 2) the clip isn’t long enough (the app needs like 30 sec of a song to process) or 3) there is too much interference (people talking over it or whatnot).. but honestly i don’t get that much – about 90% of the time i get a successful result. try it with CSI NY for great new music

enjoy ;)
